Critical Role Season Four Introduces the Warriors Party

Ever since the premiere of the fourth campaign, new Dungeon Master Brennan Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with extensive world-building, a diverse cast of heroes, and a gripping narrative featuring celestial beings, evil spirits, and sinister influences increasing in power within the urban setting.

Warning: Spoilers for the third episode of Campaign 4 lie ahead.

The Warrior Group Revealed

Episode 3 concluded with a major cliffhanger and presented the initial group of characters who will separate from the main group to undertake their own adventure, separate from the other two tables.

The Soldiers table consists of Teor Pridesire (played by Travis), Thimble (Laura), the fierce warrior (the cast member), Wicander (the player), and Kattigan (Robbie).

Why Split the Party?

Considering 13 cast members, it was evident from the beginning that maintaining everyone at a single group would be impossible.

This explains, the initial installments of this story serve as an Introduction, weaving together the personal journeys before dividing into three distinct groups: Soldiers, Schemers, and Questers.

Characteristics of the Warrior Group

Per Brennan Lee Mulligan, the combat-focused party is for players who prefer a classically intense battle-oriented story mode where non-violent answers are few and far between.

Initially, figures such as the reluctant priest the cleric might seem mismatched, but the developments of the third episode make it clear why these five characters are ideally matched for the Soldiers table.

Why They Must Go

To begin with, the group has a clear idea where to proceed after a intense first encounter with the enemy group.

A former ally of Thjazi—whose passing kicked off the narrative’s action—exploited the enemy for his own means, breaking into the secret base, striking the rogue, and taking all the enchanted items to auction.

Casimir then paid off his obligations and escaped to a fortified location in Gormalay, Timmony, north of Dol-Makjar, with Teor’s brother close behind.

Personal Motivations

Moreover, each member has a personal reason to depart the urban setting:

  • The agile hero, as the close ally and trusted friend, wants vengeance.
  • Kattigan is familiar with Timmony and cautions that it is a hostile place.
  • Tyranny and Wicander, having disobeyed his relatives’ demands to eliminate Teor and instead saved him, have no other options.
  • But, their reputation as important members in the influential clan could enable the group reach places they usually can’t.
  • Furthermore, Teor swore a unbreakable promise to Wicander for his deliverance and will now accompany him everywhere.

Wanted and Hunted

Lastly, all of them are sought by the rulers that control the city for a range of causes, making remaining behind no longer safe:

  • Thimble and Kattigan are known criminals.
  • Tyranny and The cleric betrayed House Halovar and the legion of demons they are partnered with.
  • Teor is marked for death by House Halovar.

This means them no alternative but to travel to the northern region in quest for the traitor.

Upcoming Developments

From the recent installment’s follow-up content, we find out that the combat party won’t be around next week, leaving the remaining eight cast members to round up the Seekers and Planners parties.

Fans can look forward to learning which adventurers will be where in the season’s concluding setup installment, available to watch on next week.
